About this line

Mortuary refrigerators are refrigerated stainless steel cabinets in which bodies are held in individual cells until arrangements are complete. Preservus, the mortuary equipment line of Medica-Lab Group, builds them in AISI 304 stainless steel inside and out, running at +2 to +8 °C, in capacities from one body to nine. They serve hospital mortuaries, washing facilities, forensic institutes and municipalities.

Capacity is the first decision. A one-cell mortuary fridge suits a clinic or small facility, three cells is the standard configuration for a mid-size hospital, and six or nine-cell systems serve major hospitals and forensic institutes. Any configuration can be supplied as a freezer running at −10 to −20 °C for long-term cases.

Preservus started in 2002 in the group's Egyptian factories and is manufactured today in Saudi Arabia under the ISO 13485:2016 quality system. Its mortuary systems are installed in 38 hospitals.

Mortuary refrigerator specifications: material, cooling and insulation

Every body-contact surface and cabinet interior is AISI 304 stainless steel, specified because it withstands repeated chemical disinfection without pitting or staining. Cooling capacity is matched to cell count: 0.50 HP on the one-cell MLM-01E, 0.75 HP on the two-cell MLM-01 and 1 HP on the three-cell MLM-02. The one-cell unit is insulated at 40 kg/m³ and comes with a stainless steel body tray with two handles; its internal cell measures 550 × 700 mm and can be customised.

Mortuary refrigerator temperature is +2 to +8 °C for routine short-term preservation; the freezer version runs at −10 to −20 °C for long-term cases. Standard units restart automatically when power returns.

Options that protect the cabinet: multiple cooling units, UPS alarm, emergency cooling

Any configuration can be ordered with multiple independent cooling units, so a single compressor failure does not compromise the whole cabinet; with a UPS-backed temperature alarm that stays live during an outage; and with emergency cooling for facilities where outages are frequent. Deodorisers and universal door locking are also available. Cell dimensions can be adjusted to the room and the access route, and the two-cell unit exists in a horizontal two-door version, code MLM-01H.

Installation, commissioning and service for every body storage refrigerator

Units are delivered, positioned, connected and temperature-tested on site, and handed over with a written commissioning record. Our own teams cover Saudi Arabia and Egypt directly; in export markets we work with the appointed local partner. Each body storage refrigerator is built new in our own factories under ISO 13485:2016. Tell us your bed count, the average length of stay in the mortuary and the room dimensions, and we will recommend a configuration before quoting.

What determines the price of a mortuary refrigerator

The price of a mortuary refrigerator depends on the number of cells and whether it is configured as a refrigerator or a freezer, the options selected (multiple cooling units, UPS alarm, emergency cooling, deodoriser, door locking), the quantity ordered, the delivery city, the warranty and service terms, and on-site installation and commissioning. Send us your cell count and city and request a detailed quotation.

FAQ

How many cells does a hospital mortuary refrigerator need?

Capacity is normally sized on bed count and local practice: a clinic or small facility is served by a one or two-cell unit, a mid-size hospital by three cells, and a large hospital or forensic institute by six or nine. The range runs MLM-01E, MLM-01, MLM-02, MLM-03, MLM-04 and MLM-05 for 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9 cells. Tell us your bed count and average length of stay and we will recommend a configuration.

How do I choose between one and nine cells for my room?

Start with how many bodies must be held at once, then the room. The range covers 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9 cells. One- to three-cell units are 1000 mm wide and taller with each cell; four- and six-cell units are 1900 mm wide, the nine-cell unit 2200 mm. Send the room size and we will confirm the fit.

What is the mortuary refrigerator temperature, and when is a freezer needed?

The refrigerator holds +2 to +8 °C for routine short-term preservation. The freezer version runs at −10 to −20 °C for long-term cases: unidentified remains, cases awaiting forensic examination, or extended repatriation. Any cell configuration can be supplied in either version, with the same dimensions and the same options.

What happens to a mortuary fridge during a power cut?

Standard units restart automatically when power returns. We recommend the UPS-backed alarm option, which keeps the temperature alarm live during an outage, and the emergency cooling option for facilities where outages are frequent. Multiple independent cooling units are also available, so a single compressor failure does not compromise the whole cabinet. All three options can be specified on any cell count.

Are Preservus mortuary refrigerators made in Saudi Arabia, and do you install them?

Yes. Preservus units are manufactured today in Saudi Arabia under the ISO 13485:2016 quality system; the line started in the group's Egyptian factories in 2002. Units are delivered, positioned, connected and temperature-tested on site, with a written commissioning record. Our teams cover Saudi Arabia and Egypt directly; in export markets we work with the appointed local partner.

Can the mortuary refrigerator specifications be customised?

Yes. Cell dimensions can be adjusted; on the one-cell unit the internal cell measures 550 × 700 mm and is customisable. Options include multiple cooling units, deodorisers, universal door locking, emergency cooling and UPS-backed alarms. Tell us the room dimensions and the access route and we will confirm the configuration that fits before manufacturing.

What floor space and electrical supply does a nine-cell mortuary refrigerator need?

The nine-cell MLM-05 is a modular 3×3 unit measuring 2800 × 2200 × 2400 mm. The room needs that floor area, door clearance to draw the trays, and a wide enough access route. Electrical supply depends on the cooling units and options chosen; we confirm it in writing with the quotation. See the Nine Cells product page.

What is the lead time for delivery and installation?

Lead time depends on the cell count, the refrigerator or freezer version, any custom cell dimensions and the delivery city, so we confirm the delivery date in writing with the quotation. Delivery covers transport, positioning in the room, connection, commissioning and a temperature test, with a written commissioning record. Our teams cover Saudi Arabia and Egypt directly.
